Who Should Attend?
This course in relation to Street Works is for suitable for utility workers, construction personnel, surveyors, maintenance staff, health and safety professionals, supervisors, and managers involved in projects requiring the accurate detection and location of underground services using cable avoidance tools.
Prerequisites
Delegates must be aged 16 or over and medically fit in line with current industry requirements.
Aim
To equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to safely and accurately detect and locate underground services using cable avoidance tools, thereby reducing the risk of accidental damage and ensuring the overall safety of personnel and the public.
Learning Outcomes
To successfully complete the NRSWA Unit LA, candidates must be able to:
- Interpret utility plans and point out the ground where the services are and interpret the symbols on utility plans.
- Acknowledge a range of services commonly found when carrying out excavations.
- Identify the risks of damage to services and the implications of such damage to gas, water, and electricity.
- Use cable location equipment to find and trace underground services.
- Describe services that cannot be found with conventional cable location equipment.
- Conduct activities safely.
- Provide sufficient evidence of knowledge through oral/written questions.
